This photographic exhibition has been inspired by the themes of the Cultural Olympiad. But what exactly is the Cultural Olympiad?
It may sound a little pretentious. Perhaps it conjures up images of a marathon runner, reciting Macbeth whilst dressed like Lady Gaga, a sort of Lady Goya! However, the Cultural Olympiad is an important part of the 2012 Olympic Games and strives to make culture and the arts accessible to everyone, an ethos we share here at Boojum&Snark. The four year programme provides opportunities for young people to express themselves through art and other cultural activities using the illuminating spirit of the Olympics as their starting block.
Suzie Kidger - Perception
The immediacy of who we are and what we choose to illustrate this.
Yazmin Cooper - Vision
Seeing beyond our fears and apprehensions.
Ollie Tubb - Passion
The passion of the craftsman and his respect for the environment and
materials.
Emma Powell - Understanding
An image can be a revelation and raise our awareness.
Naomi Linton - Courage
The courage to express your identity - a social sensation.
We are all capable of exceptional things - we think, we empathise, we are compassionate, we create, make films, make music, stand up for justice and race for life. There are extraordinary forces at work and that's what makes us so unique, so we should all recognise that spark of brilliance and remember 'This life is more than just a read through.'
